Where was Martin Luther King Jr buried?
The inscription currently reads: "I was a drum major for justice, peace and righteousness." The phrase is chiselled into one side of a massive block of granite that includes King's likeness emerging from the stone. It became a point of controversy after the memorial opened in August.
In the same book, Graham says that the nickname of the senior King was "Big Mike" or "Senior Mike."
Martin Luther King, Jr. Funeral Services. The album is a recording of MLK's funeral services held on April 9, 1968 at Ebenezer Baptist Church in Atlanta, Georgia.
Meanwhile, on his journey back to Wittenberg, Luther was “kidnapped” by soldiers of Frederick and taken secretly to Wartburg Castle, near the town of Eisenach, where he remained in hiding for the better part of a year.
The current burial place of Dr. King is on the grounds of the Martin Luther King, Jr., National Historic Site near Ebenezer Baptist Church and Dr. King's birth home on Auburn Avenue, in Atlanta.
The speech, “I've Been to the Mountaintop,” was made in support of the striking sanitation workers at Mason Temple in Memphis, TN on April 3, 1968 — the day before he was assassinated.
This was the quote that was originally intended for King's memorial statue on the National Mall. But in the construction process, the decision was made to truncate the statement to: "I was a drum major for justice, peace and righteousness."
The term Lutheran, which appeared as early as 1519, was coined by Luther's opponents. The self-designation of Luther's followers was “evangelical”—that is, centred on the Gospel.
What was Luther and his followers called?
The followers of Martin Luther were called Protestants.
King's birth name was Michael, not Martin.
In 1934, however, his father, a pastor at Atlanta's Ebenezer Baptist Church, traveled to Germany and became inspired by the Protestant Reformation leader Martin Luther. As a result, King Sr. changed his own name as well as that of his 5-year-old son (from history.com).

Frederick the Wise is remembered as the man who saved Martin Luther from the fury of the Catholic Church. Frederick was born in Hartenfels Castle, Torgau in 1463, the first son of the Elector Ernst of the House of Wettin.
Martin Luther (Germany)
"You should not believe your conscience and your feelings more than the Word which the Lord Who receives sinners preaches to you."
The diet issued the Edict of Worms, which basically forbade anyone to shelter Martin Luther or provide him with aid. The edict stated that Luther should be captured and punished as a heretic. The Diet of Worms in 1521 was a critical moment in the Protestant Reformation.
In time, the raked gravel directly around the sarcophagus was replaced by a reflecting pool with Dr. King's crypt on a raised pedestal in the middle. An Eternal Flame was added in 1977.
King's final resting place is here. The King Center and Tomb are located across Auburn Avenue from the National Park Service Visitor Center.
Immediately after Luther's death, Catholic pamphlets spread rapidly, alleging that Luther had drunk himself to death with alcohol. One of his retainers, Ambrosio Kudtfeld, attested that he had hanged himself, and some of the details he gave of Luther's appearance were corroborated.
Luther called her the 'boss of Zulsdorf', after the farm they owned, and the 'morning star of Wittenberg' for her habit of rising at 4 a.m. Based on Luther's descriptions, his wife, whom he nicknamed 'Herr Käthe', exerted much control over his life.
' For freedom must ring from every mountain side.” Dr King predicted the day when “all of God's children – Jews, Negroes, whites and Indians – can join hands and sing 'Free at last, free at last. '”
Who said we are all beggars?
In his pocket, on his deathbed, Martin Luther, the Great Protestant Reformer had a small piece of paper with the words: "We are all beggars. This is true." Luther knew that like the man born blind, we are all beggars in need of Christ to open our eyes.
In January 1521, the Pope Leo X excommunicated Luther. He was then summoned to appear at the Diet of Worms, an assembly of the Holy Roman Empire. He refused to recant and Emperor Charles V declared him an outlaw and a heretic. Luther went into hiding at Wartburg Castle.
King was assassinated in 1968, when he was not yet 40 years old. Born in Atlanta in 1929, King could very much still be alive today and would have celebrated his 93rd birthday on January 15, 2022. King was an extraordinarily gifted student.
50 YEARS AGO ON APRIL 9, 1968, FUNERAL SERVICES WERE HELD IN ATLANTA FOR MARTIN LUTHER KING JR., WHO HAD BEEN SHOT AND KILLED FIVE DAYS EARLIER IN MEMPHIS, UP NEXT ON "REEL AMERICA," CBS NEWS COVERAGE FROM EBENEZER BAPTIST CHURCH, WHERE ONE OF KING'S CLOSEST FRIENDS PRESIDED OVER HIS SERVICE.
Martin Luther King was a man who had some failures along with his well-publicized successes. One of his biggest failures was the campaign for equal rights in Albany, Georgia in 1961-62.
"Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. We are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny. Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly."
National Memorial, monument built between 2009 and 2011 in Washington, D.C., honouring the American Baptist minister, social activist, and Nobel Peace Prize winner Martin Luther King, Jr., who led the civil rights movement in the United States from the mid-1950s until his death by assassination in 1968.
Wartburg Castle, Eisenach
This Unesco site was Luther's hiding place, where he stayed after he was declared an outlaw in 1521.
The large white marble gravestone at proper right is partially cut of the image. The tomb reads [REV MARTIN LUTHER KING JR / 1929-1968 / "FREE AT LAST, FREE AT LAST, / THANK GOD ALMIGHTY I'M FREE AT LAST."] There is a space in front of the headstone that is filled with small pebbles and lined in stone.
King and his family moved to one such Chicago slum at the end of January so that he could be closer to the movement. Groundwork for the Chicago Campaign began in the summer of 1965.
Who is buried next to Martin Luther King?
In 2006, after Coretta Scott King's passing, she was laid to rest next to Martin Luther King, Junior above ground, surrounded by a pool of water.
Nor was it Luther. In fact, for the first years of his life, he was Michael King. And it wasn't until he was 28 that, on July 23, 1957, his birth certificate was revised. The name Michael was crossed out, next to which someone printed carefully in black ink: “Martin Luther, Jr.”
Wartburg Castle is a popular stop on the Luther trail. When Luther spoke out against Church corruption, he was declared an outlaw and needed to run for his life. A sympathetic German prince gave him refuge. Disguised and under a fake name, Luther hid out here in this castle.
But as of 2022, only Alabama and Mississippi continue to recognize King-Lee Day together on one state holiday. MLK Day, however, is an official federal holiday and all 50 states recognized it as such for the first time in 2000. This story was reported from Los Angeles.
