Where is Martin Luther King, Jr actually buried?
The current burial place of Dr. King is on the grounds of the Martin Luther King, Jr., National Historic Site near Ebenezer Baptist Church and Dr. King's birth home on Auburn Avenue, in Atlanta.
King's four children—Bernice, Yolanda, Dexter, and Martin Luther King III—continue to work to bring their father's message of racial equality and nonviolent resistance to the world. Together, they've switched off as leaders of the Martin Luther King, Jr.

King's final resting place is here. The King Center and Tomb are located across Auburn Avenue from the National Park Service Visitor Center.
George Washington's final resting place is a tomb on his Mount Vernon estate. The remains of his wife, Martha Dandridge Custis, as well as 25 other family members, are also entombed there. In addition, 3 others are buried in a plot next to the vault.
King was assassinated in 1968, when he was not yet 40 years old. Born in Atlanta in 1929, King could very much still be alive today and would have celebrated his 93rd birthday on January 15, 2022. King was an extraordinarily gifted student.
The large white marble gravestone at proper right is partially cut of the image. The tomb reads [REV MARTIN LUTHER KING JR / 1929-1968 / "FREE AT LAST, FREE AT LAST, / THANK GOD ALMIGHTY I'M FREE AT LAST."] There is a space in front of the headstone that is filled with small pebbles and lined in stone.
Since then, his four children, three of whom are alive today, have faced the challenge of growing up without their father and within his shadow, becoming their own people while carrying on his legacy and that of their mother, who died in 2006. (Yolanda King, their sister, died in 2007.)
By all accounts, Katherina and Luther had a warm and loving family life, raising five children together. The death of their daughter Magdalene affected Luther profoundly, and that loss—along with the death of a close friend of his not long before—may explain the fixation on death that characterizes his later writings.
How many children did Martin Luther end up having?
In 1525 the Protestant reformer Martin Luther married a former nun, Katharina von Bora. The couple had six children, four of whom survived into adulthood.
The estate is controlled by King's three surviving children, Bernice and her two brothers, Dexter and Martin Luther King III. There have been years of legal disputes among King's heirs.

In Hiding: Wartburg Castle
Emperor Charles issued the Edict of Worms, declaring Luther a heretic and ordering his death. Frederick the Wise of Saxony favored Luther and arranged for him to be "kidnapped" and taken to Wartburg Castle near the town of Eisenach.
Yes, Queen Elizabeth II will be buried with Prince Philip.
Prince Philip was temporarily laid to rest in the Royal Vault at Windsor Castle on 17 April 2021.
There is no fee to visit. The memorial is open 24 hours a day.
Meanwhile, on his journey back to Wittenberg, Luther was “kidnapped” by soldiers of Frederick and taken secretly to Wartburg Castle, near the town of Eisenach, where he remained in hiding for the better part of a year.

King's birth name was Michael, not Martin.
In 1934, however, his father, a pastor at Atlanta's Ebenezer Baptist Church, traveled to Germany and became inspired by the Protestant Reformation leader Martin Luther. As a result, King Sr. changed his own name as well as that of his 5-year-old son (from history.com).
What is King favorite color? The Reverend Doctor Martin Luther King Junior's favorite colors were said to be both black and white since he was a staunch advocate of the equality of the races..
Nor was it Luther. In fact, for the first years of his life, he was Michael King. And it wasn't until he was 28 that, on July 23, 1957, his birth certificate was revised. The name Michael was crossed out, next to which someone printed carefully in black ink: “Martin Luther, Jr.”
What were George Washington's last words?
George Washington's last words were "Tis well"
"Have me decently buried; and do not let my body be put into the vault in less than three days after I am dead." Fears of being buried too soon were common in the 18th century.
On the evening of December 14, 1799, at Mount Vernon, George Washington passed away of a throat infection. He was buried four days later in the family vault at Mount Vernon.
Nonetheless, the crew, having sealed the sarcophagus for all time, went back to the Mount Vernon mansion. George Washington had become the first president to be exhumed, patted on the head, then reinterred.
MLK Day, however, is an official federal holiday and all 50 states recognized it as such for the first time in 2000.

Bernice Albertine King, 60
MLK's youngest child, Bernice Albertine King, was born on March 28, 1963. She was only 5 years old when the civil rights leader was assassinated.
He ended with an utterance of religious fervor, saying that he was not worried, that he did not fear anybody, exclaiming in a final flourish, “Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord.”
I may not get there with you. But I want you to know tonight, that we, as a people, will get to the Promised Land. And so I'm happy tonight; I'm not worried about anything; I'm not fearing any man. Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord.”
The inscription currently reads: "I was a drum major for justice, peace and righteousness." The phrase is chiseled into one side of a massive block of granite that includes King's likeness emerging from the stone. It became a point of controversy after the memorial opened in August.
He heads the association of Lutherides, which is made up of Luther descendants. Like Priesmeier, most of the 200 members are German. But he estimates Luther has up to 5,000 descendants worldwide.
Who did Martin Luther King Jr live with as a child?
He lived with his parents, Reverend Martin Luther King Sr. and Alberta Williams King, as well as his grandparents and his two siblings, Christine and Alfred Daniel Williams King. The King children all took piano lessons from their mother.
She was the choir director of the Ebenezer Baptist Church. She was shot and killed in the church by 23-year-old Black Hebrew Israelite Marcus Wayne Chenault six years after the assassination of her eldest son Martin Luther King Jr. Atlanta, Georgia, U.S.
Martin Luther (Germany)
"You should not believe your conscience and your feelings more than the Word which the Lord Who receives sinners preaches to you."
After being 'kidnapped' and taken to in an isolated castle in Eisenach, he spent 11 weeks of his 10 months in captivity translating the New Testament, which he did single handedly at a blazing rate of 1,800 words a day. Luther then went on to translate the old testament from Hebrew.
Luther called her the 'boss of Zulsdorf', after the farm they owned, and the 'morning star of Wittenberg' for her habit of rising at 4 a.m. Based on Luther's descriptions, his wife, whom he nicknamed 'Herr Käthe', exerted much control over his life.
Two years after their middle-of-the-night escape, only one nun remained unmarried, and Luther was desperate to find her a husband. The problem was, she refused to marry the suitor he had selected for her. Instead, Katharina suggested to Luther that he marry her himself.
Immediately after Luther's death, Catholic pamphlets spread rapidly, alleging that Luther had drunk himself to death with alcohol. One of his retainers, Ambrosio Kudtfeld, attested that he had hanged himself, and some of the details he gave of Luther's appearance were corroborated.
Martin Luther physically embodied the Reformation. The prints and paintings issued from the workshop of Lucas Cranach the Elder and then the Younger after 1530 show a “corpulent,” “double-chinned” “stout doctor” filling the frame.
The King family purchased the house at 501 Auburn Ave. in Atlanta Georgia in 1909.
He earned just $8,000 a year as a preacher — the equivalent of about $58,000 in 2018 dollars. He opted to return all of the $54,123 in prize money from his Nobel Prize — just over $430,000 in 2018 dollars — to the movement he held so dear.
Was Martin Luther King's family wealthy?
Like many families, the Kings were poor; the county tax lists record little personal property for James King.
Frederick the Wise is remembered as the man who saved Martin Luther from the fury of the Catholic Church. Frederick was born in Hartenfels Castle, Torgau in 1463, the first son of the Elector Ernst of the House of Wettin.
Frederick the Wise, Duke of Saxony, saved Luther's life by forcing him to hide.
King had his fair share of idiosyncrasies and secrets he withheld from the public: he smoked (but was careful to never be photographed doing so), repeatedly cheated on his wife, had socialist political views but never sided with any specific political parties, and was struggling both mentally and physically at the time ...
She will be buried in the castle's King George VI Memorial Chapel, alongside her father, her mother, and her sister's ashes.
The monarchs and their families in the chapel are not in soil to decompose in the way most people who are buried in cemeteries do. According to a report in The Guardian, it can take 10-15 years for a body to breakdown to a skeleton if buried in soil.
Queen Elizabeth will not be buried at Westminster Abbey because there is not enough space. There are 30 British monarchs who have their final resting place at Westminster Abbey, but no monarch has been buried there since 1760 due to space limitations.
Martin Luther King Jr. was living in a brick home on Sunset Avenue in an Atlanta neighborhood known as Vine City. The civil rights leader had moved there in 1965 — the year after he was awarded a Nobel Peace Prize — and the house was a refuge for him, his daughter Bernice King said Thursday.
Grave sites spread across states
The most common burial place for the 39 presidents who have died is Virginia with seven presidents buried there. The next is New York with six, Ohio with five and Tennessee with three. Two presidents each are buried in Massachusetts, Texas and California.
Where are most of the founding fathers buried?
Christ Church Burial Ground opened in 1719 and remains active today. This is the final resting place of some of our nation's most prominent founders, including five signers of the Declaration of Independence: Benjamin Franklin, Francis Hopkinson, Benjamin Rush, Joseph Hewes and George Ross.
Frederick the Wise is remembered as the man who saved Martin Luther from the fury of the Catholic Church. Frederick was born in Hartenfels Castle, Torgau in 1463, the first son of the Elector Ernst of the House of Wettin.

King lived for the four years prior to his death in 1968.
Martin Luther King Jr Day is a federal holiday in the United States that takes place on the third Monday in January. It honours the life and legacy of civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr. Each year, the celebration takes place on the Monday closest to his birthday, which is on January 15.
