Where is Martin Luther King Jr actually buried?
King's final resting place is here. The King Center and Tomb are located across Auburn Avenue from the National Park Service Visitor Center.
The current burial place of Dr. King is on the grounds of the Martin Luther King, Jr., National Historic Site near Ebenezer Baptist Church and Dr. King's birth home on Auburn Avenue, in Atlanta.
Pallbearers, including Jesse Jackson, Hosea Williams, and T. Y. Rogers, around Martin Luther King, Jr.'s casket at the burial site.
Meanwhile, on his journey back to Wittenberg, Luther was “kidnapped” by soldiers of Frederick and taken secretly to Wartburg Castle, near the town of Eisenach, where he remained in hiding for the better part of a year.
There is no fee to visit. The memorial is open 24 hours a day.
The large white marble gravestone at proper right is partially cut of the image. The tomb reads [REV MARTIN LUTHER KING JR / 1929-1968 / "FREE AT LAST, FREE AT LAST, / THANK GOD ALMIGHTY I'M FREE AT LAST."] There is a space in front of the headstone that is filled with small pebbles and lined in stone.
King was assassinated in 1968, when he was not yet 40 years old. Born in Atlanta in 1929, King could very much still be alive today and would have celebrated his 93rd birthday on January 15, 2022. King was an extraordinarily gifted student.
George Washington's final resting place is a tomb on his Mount Vernon estate. The remains of his wife, Martha Dandridge Custis, as well as 25 other family members, are also entombed there. In addition, 3 others are buried in a plot next to the vault.
Immediately after Luther's death, Catholic pamphlets spread rapidly, alleging that Luther had drunk himself to death with alcohol. One of his retainers, Ambrosio Kudtfeld, attested that he had hanged himself, and some of the details he gave of Luther's appearance were corroborated.
Who is buried next to Martin Luther King?
In 2006, after Coretta Scott King's passing, she was laid to rest next to Martin Luther King, Junior above ground, surrounded by a pool of water.
The envelope placed on the casket read, “In loving and devoted memory” and included the new monarch's official royal signature of “Charles R” — a touching gesture that reminded royal watchers of Prince William and Prince Harry's note to their late mother, Princess Diana, at her August 1997 funeral.

Gaston posted the $5,000 bail to free King from jail following his 1963 arrest for marching without a permit. King wanted to stay behind bars as a political statement, but Gaston feared for the movement without his leadership. In 1923, he founded the Booker T. Washington Insurance Co.
Frederick the Wise is remembered as the man who saved Martin Luther from the fury of the Catholic Church. Frederick was born in Hartenfels Castle, Torgau in 1463, the first son of the Elector Ernst of the House of Wettin.
What is King favorite color? The Reverend Doctor Martin Luther King Junior's favorite colors were said to be both black and white since he was a staunch advocate of the equality of the races..
King's birth name was Michael, not Martin.
In 1934, however, his father, a pastor at Atlanta's Ebenezer Baptist Church, traveled to Germany and became inspired by the Protestant Reformation leader Martin Luther. As a result, King Sr. changed his own name as well as that of his 5-year-old son (from history.com).
Martin Luther (Germany)
"You should not believe your conscience and your feelings more than the Word which the Lord Who receives sinners preaches to you."
The diet issued the Edict of Worms, which basically forbade anyone to shelter Martin Luther or provide him with aid. The edict stated that Luther should be captured and punished as a heretic. The Diet of Worms in 1521 was a critical moment in the Protestant Reformation.
Martin Luther found peace when he married an ex-nun named Katharine von Bora, whom he had helped to escape from her nunnery in an empty fish barrel and had taken refuge in Wittenberg. Katharine von Bora was born in 1499, the daughter of an impoverished nobleman.
Along the way, Lei worked closely with the Foundation and the King family to choose the material — shrimp pink granite — and to generate the likeness reflected in the final product. A 30 foot fiberglass replica of the entire sculpture served as a reference for the stone sculpture.
How long did it take for the MLK Memorial to be built?
The Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial began as an idea at a fraternity's dining room table and took 27 years of fundraising, bureaucratic wrangling and construction to become a reality.
On April 12, 1963, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and at least 55 others, almost all of whom were Black, were jailed for “parading without a permit” during a march against segregation in Birmingham, Alabama.
In his last moments, Luther was asked by his friend Justus Jonas, “Do you want to die standing firm on Christ and the doctrine you have taught?” He answered emphatically, “Yes!” Luther's last words were: “We are beggars.
But I want you to know, tonight, that we, as a people, will get to the Promised Land!” He ended with an utterance of religious fervor, saying that he was not worried, that he did not fear anybody, exclaiming in a final flourish, “Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord.”
The speech, “I've Been to the Mountaintop,” was made in support of the striking sanitation workers at Mason Temple in Memphis, TN on April 3, 1968 — the day before he was assassinated.
But as of 2022, only Alabama and Mississippi continue to recognize King-Lee Day together on one state holiday. MLK Day, however, is an official federal holiday and all 50 states recognized it as such for the first time in 2000. This story was reported from Los Angeles.

Martin Luther King Jr. was living in a brick home on Sunset Avenue in an Atlanta neighborhood known as Vine City. The civil rights leader had moved there in 1965 — the year after he was awarded a Nobel Peace Prize — and the house was a refuge for him, his daughter Bernice King said Thursday.
